Each neighborhood of Barcelona celebrates its own village fair and therefore you can find almost the whole summer period some fiestas going on in one of the barrios! The most famous one is LA FESTA MAJOR DE GRÀCIA. And it is easy to say why: they have by far the nicest decorated streets and the whole program is very well organized and full of fantastic events, shows, spectacles and activities for families.
It happens always in the second half of August and for many Graciencs this is the most important week of the whole year. There is really no better way to experience the charm of Gràcia! The fair has a long tradition and residents usually spend a good part of their summer planning and preparing the creative decoration of their streets. They are doing this with passion and love as well as with the ambition to win the prize for the best designed street. If you go there during the day, you will be able to see performances, such as the Castellers or parades with giant figures, dragons and devils; in the evening, there is live music or DJs at every corner. The atmosphere is truly fascinating and attracts people from all over Barcelona. One thing to keep in mind: August is the hottest month. We usually go there in the evening to have a drink in the streets, listen to the live music and simply go with the vibes. However, the best time to admire the beautiful decorated streets is in the morning when it is less crowded.
Side note: the village fair this year was sadly interrupted by the terror attack at La Rambla on the 17th of August and therefore many activities, especially during the night were suspended. We feel with the victims and their families and friends and at the same time stand up and shout out loud for a world full of Freedom, Tolerance and Open Minds! #notincpor
